Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri’s recent defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) has sent shockwaves through Nigeria’s political landscape. The move, confirmed by former presidential aide Bashir Ahmad, now makes the APC the largest political party in Africa, boasting 30 of Nigeria’s 36 governors.
Fintiri announced the switch in a statewide broadcast on Friday, accompanied by his entire cabinet and all PDP officials in Adamawa. He said the decision was motivated by what he described as the developmental interests of the state’s people.
Ahmad highlighted the significance on X, writing, “With Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, formally joining the APC, the party now boasts 30 out of 36 governors in the federation, firmly cementing its position as the largest political party in Africa.”
