The Nigerian naira dipped against the U.S. dollar on Thursday at the official exchange, ending a brief three-day run of gains. The Central Bank of Nigeria reported the naira at ₦1,353.66 per dollar, down from ₦1,348.95, a daily drop of ₦4.71.
In contrast, the naira saw a modest rise in the black market, climbing ₦5 to ₦1,440 per dollar, following interventions by the Central Bank aimed at stabilizing Bureau De Change operations.
The movement comes as Nigeria’s foreign debt reached $47.53 billion as of February 10, 2026, according to the Central Bank. Analysts say the currency’s mixed performance reflects ongoing pressures in the forex market, with high demand for dollars and limited supply keeping traders cautious.
This latest fluctuation underscores the fragile balance in Nigeria’s currency market and the broader economic challenges shaping the naira’s path forward.
