A global study by the World Health Organization and the International Agency for Research on Cancer finds that 37% of new cancer cases in 2022; roughly 7.1 million, were linked to preventable causes.

Tobacco use accounted for 15% of cases, infections for 10%, and alcohol 3%. Lung, stomach, and cervical cancers made up nearly half of preventable cases. The report highlights the power of vaccination, infection prevention, and lifestyle changes in reducing the global cancer burden.
