On Monday, followers of Mohammed Abdulrahman, the party’s factional acting national chairman, stormed the Peoples Democratic Party’s national secretariat at Wadata Plaza in Abuja, sparking a protest.

Chanting songs of unity, the protesters demanded that Umar Damagum’s National Working Committee leave the offices right away.

According to reports, Abdulrahman was appointed the party’s acting national chairman last week as Senator Samuel Anyanwu, the national secretary, and Kamaldeen Ajibade, the legal adviser, were suspended for a month due to a leadership crisis that threatened the party’s very existence.

In a shocking turn of events, the group supporting Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike gathered at a different location in Abuja and declared the suspension of the Damagum-led NWC. The demonstrators vowed to take back control of the secretariat for the Abdulrahman-led faction, accusing the Damagum-led leadership of mishandling party affairs.
As rival groups fight for possession of the party’s building, security personnel have been sent to the area to prevent a collapse of law and order.

But Abdulrahman’s section of the party’s NWC has seized power at the National Chairman’s office.

Abdulrahman pledged to bring the party together and reposition it in advance of the upcoming general election while addressing reporters at the office.

He also gave members his word that he would work hard to advance the party.

He declared, “We are prepared to work in our dear party’s interest.”
