As Lagos, the commercial hub of Nigeria, gets ready for its yearly celebrations known as Detty December, the comedian made these comments in an Instagram Story post on Thursday.
Since many Nigerians struggle with low purchasing power as a result of President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms, Mr. Jollof warned that if artists don’t lower their pricing, the holiday season may not be as joyful.
“To all Nigerian musicians, the current charging rate is getting out of hand. This holiday season may not provide the excitement we all anticipate if it persists,” he wrote.
“Costs are a problem for towns, fans, and promoters. There won’t be much of a need to spend so much money. Let’s be sensible, please, so that December is a time of happiness rather than disappointment.
Among other things, comedy events and musical concerts typically take center stage at Detty December. During this time, the hospitality sector also experiences growth as both foreign visitors and Nigerians living abroad travel to Lagos in search of fun.
