After a National Executive Council meeting on Sunday at the University of Abuja, the union took this conclusion.
Prof. Chris Piwuna, the national president of ASUU, informed our correspondent in Abuja of this in a copy of the strike action that he personally signed.
During the National Executive Council meeting on September 28, 2025, at the University of Abuja, the Union criticized the government’s persistent disregard for its requests and the disregard for the university system.
As a result, ASUU has given the Nigerian Federal Government a fourteen-day ultimatum to resolve these problems. The Union may be forced to start a two-week warning strike and then a full, indefinite strike if the Federal Government does not resolve these issues by the end of the fourteen-day ultimatum.
In an effort to maintain stability among universities, the Federal Government, acting through the Federal Ministry of Education, established a committee to investigate a proposal for ASUU. The committee was led by Abel Enitan, the permanent secretary of the ministry.
The committee has not yet made a public decision as of the time this report was filed.
Renegotiating the 2009 agreement, providing sufficient finances for university revitalization, paying existing salary arrears, and establishing sustainable funding sources are still among ASUU’s primary objectives.
