THE VARSITY FIVE A SIDE FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT IS ANNOUNCED BY MONIEPOINT

The first Monieball, Nigeria's first national university five-a-side football competition, has been formally announced by Moniepoint Microfinance Bank. It will take place from October 8 to October 31.

Eight colleges will compete in a month-long event from October 8 to October 31, 2025, as part of the program.Eight institutions compete in the event over the course of 16 games and eight matchdays on three host campuses. Round robin group rounds and knockout semi-finals will take place on campus over the course of three weeks, culminating in the championship game and third-place playoff in Lagos on Friday, October 31.

Abia State University, Adekunle Ajasin University, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, and Federal University, Oye-Ekiti will play in Group B, while the University of Ilorin (hosts), the University of Calabar, and the University of Ibadan will participate in Group A.
There will be a five-minute halftime break between each of the two 25-minute halves of play. Ten players (four outfielders, one goalie, and five replacements) and five team officials will be fielded by each team.

Head of Brand at Moniepoint, Anastasia Igbokidi, explained the tournament’s purpose to reporters in Lagos, saying it was intended to give kids a stage on which to display their skills and connect them with opportunities outside of sports.

“Everyone has a different definition of progress, and as the default financial institution that is based on Nigerians’ progress, we want Monieball to be more than just a competition—a platform for talent to come together, a catalyst for dreams, and an investment in tomorrow’s leaders,” she stated.
Dr. Ajibua Alayode, the Acting President of NUGA and the Sports Director at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, emphasized NUGA’s dedication to promoting athletic endeavors and expressed hope that the collaboration between NUGA and Moniepoint would endure.

“This is a historic day. Sports management and creativity come together on this day. I can’t wait to see it. This is going to be a long-term relationship, in my opinion. With their professional approach that meets international standards, Moniepoint’s investment shows a sincere dedication to grassroots sports and will surely improve the university sports experience in Nigeria,” he stated.

As you may remember, Moniepoint MFB recently announced Victor Osimhen as an ambassador. His inspirational tale of perseverance and success reflects the brand’s advertising concept.

Olamide Adeyemo, CEO of Perform Agency, stated that all students who participated would be under 25 and that sufficient security would be in place to guarantee a smooth competition. He also stated that Nigeria Premier Football League officials and scouts would be present to look for talent during the competition.
