Even though it will be two years before the next presidential election, there has been ongoing conjecture on a purported conspiracy to put Shettima on the ticket.
Amid increased rumors in June, presidential spokeswoman Bayo Onanuga called the allegations a “non-issue,” adding that Tinubu will select a running mate only after receiving the nomination of the All Progressives Congress.
But if it was really without merit, Baba-Ahmed argued, the president ought to have personally handled the issue.
“I would really like to know what causes all of these tales about Shettima being dropped. “I believe that the President ought to have taken action a long time ago, somewhere along the line,” he remarked.
He claimed that Tinubu could have put an end to the rumors by making a firm declaration expressing trust in his deputy.
He claimed that if there was any validity to the rumors of replacing the vice president with someone else—another Northern vice president, perhaps a Christian, perhaps from somewhere else—it would have only required the president to say, “Stop this nonsense,” directly and personally. I am content with my vice president, I work well with him, and I have faith in him. I want this bullshit about me dumping him to stop, either now or in the future.
When we arrive in 2027, I shall make a decision regarding my running mate. Meanwhile, we have tasks to complete. However, he didn’t mention that. No one in his people said that.
