Early on Saturday, July 19, 2025, the suspects who had long harassed locals and commuters were apprehended at Abelu along the Idofian Road axis.

The security team affiliated with the Ilorin South Local Government Council made the arrest.

The suspects were arrested after the local government’s security force quickly mobilized and conducted a raid on the site in response to reliable intelligence.

The suspects were discovered in possession of a bicycle, which they had been employing as a covert instrument to support their illegal operations. They had been pretending to be innocent Okada riders in order to evade detection while planning and carrying out their kidnappings.

Hon. Nuhu Majeed Podo, Executive Chairman of the Ilorin South Local Government Council, praised the security task force’s courage and effectiveness and reaffirmed his administration’s steadfast dedication to ensuring everyone’s safety and security.

“Our renewed efforts to support local security architecture and encourage community vigilance have clearly resulted in this success,” said Hon. Podo.
“Until there are no criminal elements left in Ilorin South, we will not give up.”

As investigations continue to ascertain the scope of their network and prior operations, the suspects are presently being held and subjected to additional questioning.

As the Council steps up its security operations in every zone, locals are asked to stay alert and report any suspicious activity in their neighborhoods.
