During his 22-month tenure, the Portuguese led the three-time African champions to second place at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.

The 64-year-old’s contract ended in February, and he departed the position.

Peseiro claimed that the pressure and stress of the position is the reason he departed.

“I made the decision to depart after the AFCON. I was under too much stress at work since I had put in too much effort. Everyone helped me, including my family and the players, but I got tired and decided that even if I had won the AFCON, that was enough for me, Peseiro said to SABC Sport.

Peseiro claimed that leading the Super Eagles was a “special job” despite the difficulties he faced.

“Nigeria was a fantastic team with talented players. We performed admirably in the AFCON. The well traveled coach continued, “I think our team was the finest until we lost to Cote d’Ivoire in the competition.

Peseiro hasn’t had a job since he left Nigeria. According to the former Venezuelan coach, he is awaiting the ideal assignment.

“I’m looking for a good opportunity and a wise move. It’s true that I received offers for positions from South Africa, Europe, and Brazil, but I felt comfortable turning them down. He said, “So far, nothing special. Someone called to tell me about the Sundowns job and about other things.”
