Dalung, the leader of the anti-government demonstration in Jos, Plateau State, last Thursday, August 1, was present at the protesters’ Sunday, August 4, open-air church service.
Speaking to reporters at the Sunday service at the Old Airport Roundabout, which drew a sizable contingent of protestors, including leaders of the Muslim and Christian communities, Dalung called Tinubu’s speech meaningless and insisted that the demonstration was far from over.
“The President did not say anything in his speech,” stated the former minister. He did not ask the demonstrators to call off the demonstration. All he did was threaten them and order the security services to carry out the crackdown, killing and shooting. He didn’t even say anything to Nigerians. He was merely speaking to his cabinet members and himself. His statements have simply served to fortify our determination to carry out this protest to the end.
