Following a meeting with other service commanders in the state, Maku Olatunde, the commandant of the NSCDC for Anambra State, made this announcement in the state capital of Awka.
The Head of Media and Tactical Operations, Okadigbo Edwin, made this revelation in a statement on Monday.
According to Edwin, the command is steadfastly dedicated to upholding law and order prior to, during, and following the scheduled demonstration.
He claims that the deployment is compliant with the directive from Commandant General Dr. Ahmed Audi to maintain its position as the primary agency legally tasked with safeguarding vital infrastructure and national assets.
The statement read, “840 personnel are to resist all forms of violent protests and lawlessness, as well as prevent vandalism of critical national assets and infrastructure. 350 personnel are for the anti-sit-at-home order operations on Monday.”
In accordance with the directive from Commandant General Dr. Ahmed Audi, we must uphold our fundamental role as the principal organization legally tasked with safeguarding vital national infrastructure and assets.
When violent acts endanger the harmonious coexistence of all Anambra people or jeopardize our nation’s vital infrastructure and assets, the Command will not stand by or do nothing.
“Instead, we will take proactive steps to stop and neutralize such actions, guaranteeing the citizens of Anambra’s safety and security as well as the preservation of such vital assets.”
The NSCDC urged the demonstration organizers to stay within the bounds of the law, even as it acknowledged citizens’ rights to protest.
“There will be serious legal repercussions for anyone thinking about doing criminal things during the protest, like interfering with government property or infrastructure. We would like to remind the public that these acts are regarded as serious offenses.
Furthermore, it is strictly forbidden to interfere with social and economic activity in the state, especially in key locations like hospitals and airports, and to make it difficult for vital service providers to perform their jobs.
The statement further said, “Those who disregard these warnings will be held responsible and will face the full force of the law.”
