Nigerians are planning a 10-day nationwide demonstration, known as the Days of Rage, on August 1, 2024. The protests, inspired by Kenyan protests, are attracting support from ordinary citizens using social media platforms.

However, the Department of Security Service (DSS) believes the plan is politically motivated, with organizers seeking to exploit the violent outcome to smear federal and sub-national governments and force regime change.

Peter Afunaya, the Director of Public Relations and Strategic Communications of the Service, has signed a statement stating that the DSS has identified funding lines, sponsors, and collaborators of the plot.

The Service is asking parents, guardians, and heads of traditional and academic institutions to advise their wards, children, and students to resist the urge to join the planned protest. The DSS does not believe aggression should be the first line of action in handling the emerging scenario. The Service will work with other security and law enforcement agencies to maintain peace and will apply all legitimate methods to achieve this.
