According to reports, the truck crashed into a female biker as she was descending the bridge because the driver lost control of the truck while it was moving.
Adebayo Taofiq, the Director of LASTMA’s Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, made this revelation in a statement posted on the organization’s official X handle.
The statement said, in part, “The body of a female biker who was trapped under a heavy containerized truck in Lagos was retrieved early this morning by agents of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and other emergency responders.
According to preliminary findings, the truck driver lost control while speeding, causing the truck to crash on the female rider. When the driver realized how serious the collision was, he left the scene.
The incident happened around 6:15 a.m., according to Sola Giwa, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s Special Advisor on Transportation. She also noted that “immediately after the incident, LASTMA personnel called in other emergency responders including the LASEMA Response Unit (LRU), for a rescue operation.”

Giwa said that the deceased’s body had been removed by the Lagos State Ambulance Service. To make room for unrestricted vehicle traffic on the Iganmu Bridge, the containerized truck was removed at the same time.
Additionally, he mentioned that police personnel had been sent in to maintain security while the rescue was underway.
Along with offering condolences to the relatives of the dead, the governor’s aide “warned truck drivers to adhere to speed limits both within and outside the state.”
Additionally, he counseled individual and commercial motorcycle riders to abide by the traffic laws and regulations outlined in the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018.
