Wike threatened the member in a previous report for criticizing his development projects in the country’s capital.
“What have you done as a legislator, you? How many bills have you supported to strengthen our health and education systems? I take that lawmaker to task. We will fail you if you become very successful and come run under Abuja in 2027.
“Do you believe that the previous incident will recur? That won’t take place once more. Fortunately, I am currently the FCT Minister. I’m not afraid because that is my domain,” he declared.
Wike is criticized by the Labour Party
In response to this danger, the Labour Party (LP) has called for Wike to face disciplinary action, pointing out that Kingibe was elected by the people of the Federal Capital Territory and that Wike is an appointee of the president.
The LP Chairman in the Federal Capital Territory, Peter Dugwu, claimed in a Tuesday, July 2, interview with the Nigerian Tribune that Wike’s criticism of Senator Kingibe also targeted the party, which she represents.
In order to set the scenario for the general election of 2027, Dugwu stated that the LP intends to respond to Wike during the next Area Councils election in the Federal Capital Territory.
“We’re not sure whose authority he’s speaking from. We wish to inform him of it. The FCT is not an extension of Rivers state, and this is not Rivers.
“The LP, not Wike, would determine whether or not Ireti returns. He declared, “It is not his business to ask her to go and concentrate on 2027; he has no right or locus to do so.”
APGA and NNPP respond
Similarly, Wike’s remarks on Senator Kingibe were criticized by Dr. Ajuji Ahmed, the national chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), who labeled them as verbal abuse.
He emphasized that as Wike was not in charge of the initial appointments made to other lawmakers, he lacked the power to stop them from being re-elected.
“That (the attack) amounts to verbal violence because there is no justification for him (Wike) to do that,” he declared. Not in the LP is he. LP was the one who chose her. He is not the whole FCT electorate, and he has nothing to do with LP. No one can prevent someone from getting re-elected after every three years. It’s not a very savory assertion.
The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) leader Chief Chekwas Okorie criticized Wike and the FCT for their verbal altercation.
He called on public servants to set aside their disagreements and cooperate in order to enhance the FCT.
It’s all politics to me. However, it is regrettable that they permitted their political disagreements to interfere with their ability to serve the public.
The National Assembly is in charge of Abuja. It was assumed that the two would collaborate. However, the fact that they are fighting is terrible,” he remarked.
