This was stated in a statement released on Tuesday in Abuja by Mohammed Abdullahi, the Command Public Relations Officer (CPRO). According to Abdullahi, the victims have been given to the National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) so that they can conduct additional inquiries.
He said that the operation was a prompt reaction to the new Comptroller of Immigration (CGI), Kemi Nandap, who was tasked with improving morale.

He claims that during questioning, the young woman from Sokoto’s Giribshi neighborhood admitted that she didn’t know the two young girls she was traveling with to Niger.

“She said they were given to her by Maman Adnan, a Sokoto woman who covered the cost of their transportation to Niger.

She further stated that the woman asked her to assist in bringing the two girls to Amina Yunusa, a different woman in Niger, who would provide them jobs at her restaurant in Niamey.

Following a closer investigation, Nabila Ibrahim, 17, and her sister Zainab Ibrahim, 15, claimed to be from Zuru LGA in Kebbi state, according to Abdullahi.

They claimed that their parents had given their permission to travel to Niger, where they planned to continue employment at a restaurant the owner of which they were unaware.

In response, Tony Akuneme, Comptroller of Immigration, Ilela Command, conducted the interviews and asked the Sokoto State NAPTIP to assume responsibility for the two victims and the alleged trafficker. He promised to assist with any additional research and potential legal action.
In order to support the work of the CG, Akuneme reaffirmed his commitment to continuing the struggle against the smuggling of migrants and the trafficking of persons. According to Akuneme, the Immigration CG expressed gratitude to the officers and men of the Ilela border command for their hard work and pledged to recognize and commend exceptional staff members.
