Obatayo, the principal of an Oka Akoko school, was charged by the police on three counts of defilement, illegally administering medications to obtain abortions, and killing the victim’s unborn child.
The defendant was remanded to the Olokuta Correctional Center by Magistrate B.A. Alphonso, who rejected the defendant’s plea.
He gave the police instructions to forward the case file for guidance to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Folashade Adesuyi, the police prosecutor, informed the court that Obatayo committed the crime at some point in February 2020 in the Ondo State local government area of Akoko South-East, specifically in Epinmi-Akoko.
According to Adesuyi, the defendant had forced carnal knowledge of the 14-year-old pupil at his school, who had been under his care for the past ten years.
Additionally, the prosecution claimed that the defendant had illegally provided the victim contraceptive medication in order to obtain a number of abortions, so harming the victim’s unborn child.The charge stated that the offenses violated Sections 218, 230, and 328 of the Ondo State 2006 Criminal Laws.
The perpetrator was taken into custody after the victim confessed, according to the prosecution.
Speaking before the court, the victim stated that when she was just ten years old in 2020, her parents gave her up to the defendant, the principal of her Oka-Akoko school.
She informed the court that since then, Obatayo, her guardian, had been having sexual relations with her.
My parents gave me up to live with a preacher four years ago because he wanted to train me. He forced me into having sex with him on my first day at his place and instructed me not to tell anyone about it,” she related.
“After many preventive medications, he had impregnated me three times and given me N5,000 to buy some contraceptive pills to end the pregnancy.”
However, he wouldn’t give me money for the medication during the third pregnancy, so I stole it to buy the tablets.
“I told my parents about my ordeal and the pastor later accused me of stealing his money for my boyfriend, which later resulted in the arrest of a boy in our school.”
The prosecutor asked the court to remand the defendant at the detention facility pending the DPP’s advice due to the seriousness of the offense.
The application was approved by Magistrate Alphonso, who postponed the trial until March 8, 2022. She gave the order to transfer the victim, indefinitely, to the government-run rehabilitation facility in Oba-Ile. For consideration, the matter was postponed until August 29, 2024.
